In Loving Memory of Joyce Travers

There are so many things that go into a person’s life: family, friends, and careers. Joyce Travers was certainly great at all three. Joyce’s accomplishments in her professional and personal life demonstrate how important it was for her to care for others. She was a dedicated LVN in the field of hospice and palliative care. Her dedication as an LVN was reflected in her providing the best care for her patients. Joyce leaves behind two sons, Dustin and David, her fiancé, Mario, and her sister, Jody, as well as numerous family and friends. Joyce is revered as an individual filled with life and love, and she will be truly missed. To honor Joyce, Assisted Home Health and Hospice Foundation is creating the Joyce Travers Palliative/Hospice Care Education Grant. This grant is a legacy to the quality of work and compassion that Joyce brought to her patients.

Joyce Travers work as providing hospice care involved assisting families that were going through life-limiting illnesses. Her quality of work and compassion exemplified who Joyce was as a person as well as her being an intricate part of her hospice team. She attended to the needs of her patients and their families, caring for more than just the medical side, but also the emotional component that goes into being a great hospice care provider.

Joyce’s tenure with palliative care was also incomparable. Her involvement with the care of her patient’s symptoms, when diagnosed with a serious, illness helped them to make the most of their lives. Pain and discomfort can often lead to depression, making the patient’s life harder. Her contribution to palliative care in providing treatment for her patients’ symptoms enabled them to have a better quality of life.

Joyce was an amazing individual. She was loved by her friends, family, and patients. She proved it is never too late to pursue your passion. She became a nurse late in life, but she had cared for others long before then. The number of lives she cared for and the quality of care she provided is unmatched. Her legacy as a nurse will be remembered with Assisted Home Health and Hospice Foundation’s Joyce Travers Palliative/Hospice Care Education Grant.

Our foundation offers advanced educational training to affiliated healthcare providers, and The Joyce Travers Grant will fund an LVN/RN interested in becoming certified as a palliative and/ or hospice LVN/RN. The grant requires all applicants be a licensed LVN/RN and have worked as an LVN/RN for at least 2 years.
